Nigel Farage has been re-elected as Member of Parliament for Clacton, holding the seat for Reform UK in a by-election held in the constituency.
The win keeps Farage in the House of Commons as Reform UK continues building its position within British politics. Farage has represented Clacton, a coastal constituency in Essex, since first winning it in the 2024 general election — his first successful bid for a Commons seat after several previous unsuccessful attempts over more than two decades in politics.
The by-election result arrives during a period of broader turbulence in UK politics, with Parliament currently in summer recess and due to return on 1 September. Reform UK has been polling strongly nationally in recent months, and Farage's team is likely to present this result as further evidence of that momentum, though a single constituency by-election result should not be read as a reliable national indicator on its own.
